Fly Fishing Course – One Day
Casting in the morning, fishing in the afternoon
1 day · Triesting or Pielach (Lower Austria) · For beginners
A full day on the water – theory and practice in one. The one-day course on the Triesting or Pielach takes you from your first cast to the river. In the morning you learn casting technique, knots and entomology. In the afternoon you fish – dry fly and nymph on one of the finest trout streams in Lower Austria. How the Day Runs
Morning – theory and casting
We meet at 9:00 AM at the river. After a short introduction to the tackle, you get your rental gear and we start casting. Clemens takes you through the basic cast and roll cast step by step, shows you the essential knots, and gives you a grounding in entomology – which fly imitates which insect, and why.
Afternoon – fishing
Now it gets real: you're standing in the water, fishing. Clemens is right there helping with fly selection, presentation and reading the water. You learn where trout hold, how to approach them, and how to release a fish properly. Chances for brown trout and rainbow trout are good.
The Rivers
Depending on the date, the course takes place at one of two rivers in Lower Austria – both less than an hour from Vienna.
Triesting – Weissenbach
A small, gin-clear trout stream in the Vienna Woods. The Triesting is ideal for starting out: manageable width, a solid brown trout population, and plenty of spots where you can immediately apply what you've learned.
Pielach – Hofstetten-Grünau
The Pielach is wider and gives you more room to cast. Alongside brown trout, you'll find rainbow trout and grayling here. A varied beat with riffles and slower runs.
