Swedish Lapland is the Alaska of Europe: endless wilderness above the Arctic Circle, untouched rivers, the midnight sun – and fish that have never seen a fly. From Kiruna a helicopter takes you into country reachable no other way. Waiting there are kilometers of river holding wild brown trout, arctic char and grayling of remarkable size.

Unlike many operators who sell the well-known and often crowded Kaitum, we work remote rivers accessible only by helicopter. Less pressure, wilder fish, more adventure. Whether you head out on your own or want an experienced guide alongside you, we plan your Lapland adventure with you personally.

The fishing in Swedish Lapland

The rivers and lakes of the Kiruna fjäll offer fly fishing at the highest level. Kilometers of water with constantly changing character – quiet pools, fast runs, deep holes – and wild, hard-fighting fish: brown trout, arctic char and grayling at impressive sizes. The dry fly fishing for grayling in particular is world class; hardly any water in Europe compares.

Beyond the salmonids, many waters in the region hold pike over a meter and large perch – a quiet tip for fly fishers looking for variety. Some rivers see salmon runs that stand comparison with the best in Norway.

The range of water is enormous. From small brown trout creeks to wide, wadeable rivers ideally suited to multi-day kayak drifts. Many stretches are reachable only by helicopter, which cuts fishing pressure sharply and keeps the quality of the fish at a level unthinkable in Central Europe.

The country & the season

Around 20 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle lies a landscape of fjäll plateaus, coniferous forest and an almost unbelievable wealth of rivers and lakes. The region around Kiruna is home to the Sami, the indigenous people of Scandinavia, who still live traditionally from reindeer herding. Reindeer graze along the rivers, moose move through the valleys, and with luck you meet a lynx or a brown bear.

The season opens in mid June, as snow and ice melt and more and more water becomes fishable. July brings the midnight sun and active fish – the best time for dry flies. August offers stable conditions and good visibility. In September the tundra turns spectacular autumn colors and the trout feed hard before winter.
